New Puppy Tips & Tricks
Here is a list of essentials for your new puppy....
- Collar & Harness (cheap ones are fine as your puppy will grow quickly)
- Bed/Crate - If buying to last, get a large size
- Food & Water Bowl - Metal with non-slip bottom. We do not recommend ceramic for puppies as they can break if knocked over.
- Soft slicker brush & hair dryer
- Car restraint

TOYS! Ensure a variety of toys are available for your puppy. Include soft plush toys and 'chuck it' rubber balls.
Food
We primarily feed our puppies Glow Large Breed Puppy biscuits, which can be purchased from PetStock (sign up to their loyalty program for $$ off each bag).

- Beef Mince (fresh)
- Chicken Frames & Chicken Necks (must be very fresh. Freeze for additional entertainment and for teething puppies.
Treats - Cut lean meat into 1cm thick strips and dehydrate in low oven (approx. 145 degrees). Break into pieces for training.
- Lactose free grated cheese
- Leftover meat & veg cut into pieces (see list for foods to avoid below)
- Pig snouts, shark cartilage, cow ears & kangaroo tendons make great chews
Toxic foods
Do not ever feed the following substances as they are toxic to dogs (note this is not a complete list): alcohol, onions, onion powder, garlic, chocolate, coffee or caffeine products, mouldy or spoiled foods or compost, avocado, bread dough, yeast dough, grapes, raisins, sultanas (including in Christmas cakes etc), currants, nuts (including macadamia nuts), fruit stones or ‘pits’ (e.g. mango seeds, apricot stones, avocado stones), mushrooms, and fruit seeds. Also, never feed the following as these can be dangerous for dogs: corncobs, green unripe tomatoes, cooked bones, small pieces of raw bone, fatty trimmings/fatty foods, salt and roughly-cut vegetables.
Also ensure your pet dog doesn’t have access to string wrappings around rolled roasts or absorbent pads found under meat when wrapped on trays.
Pet Insurance
We use and recommend Knose Pet Insurance (knose.com.au). Please arrange cover for your dog before our 8 week complementary insurance expires.
Training
We recommend all puppies join a puppy training class. Please contact local training centres in your area.
